How it all Started:

5 years ago, I hit the same wall that probably brought you here. I stood in front of a closet full of clothes before work, stared at it, and said “I have nothing to wear”.

I come from a background in biology, cosmetics, and quality assurance. Pretty far from what you would think of as a personal stylist, but when I tell you these things are more connected than you think, I genuinely mean it.

While color was not a new field for me, applying it to myself was. So, I dove headfirst down the rabbit hole of trying to figure out the concepts of color, shape and style and it took me 5 years of learning and research to be where I am today. I practically came apart at the seams trying to figure this thing out. Thanks to that fever-pitch insanity, I am able to explain that process to other people to help them find their way as well!

As someone who struggled with severe body dysmorphia for over 15 years, I know what a battle it can be to try to work with yourself on self perception, body image and wanting to just disappear. I never want anyone to feel the same way. It was a very long road to overcome it on my own. I hope to make sure anyone struggling similarly knows they are not alone and give them tools to help them overcome it sooner than I did.

This work is incredibly, deeply important to me. And it is my personal crusade to make sure that everyone I meet leaves feeling at least a bit better than when they came in.

I think reminding someone of who they are, and helping them reclaim it is one of the most profound things you can do.

I have seen so many incredible people lose their sense of self somewhere along the way. And it happens to the best of us. Life is full of insanity, and some things take it out of you more than others. Maybe you started a family and didn’t have time for yourself anymore. Maybe you became a caretaker to a loved one and it took its toll. Or maybe like me, you left yourself behind a long time ago and are just struggling to find your way back. No matter where you are in your journey, your self-perception carries an enormous amount of weight in how you walk through the world. It has deep roots, and even deeper psychological impacts. And I have seen it change lives.

I have had people try to tell me that pursuing a career like this is shallow. Not worthy. That being a hair dresser or makeup artist is shallow. And to those people I say, then you don’t adequately understand humanity. And how fundamental this is.

All things are connected in one way or another. How you feel about yourself just happens to be one of the ones that has the greatest impact on our lives. And I intend to make sure that no one feels like they should be anyone other than who they are.

So, come say hi. Because I want to meet you where you are.

My Color & Style Systems:

I do not use color seasons. You will not receive a winter, spring, summer, or fall analysis from me.

I found the season system to be restrictive and exclusionary. My frustration started with not being able to identify my own “season” within the 12 season color system. And after looking into the history, found it was simply not built to be inclusive of a wide range of skin tones. It has certainly been improved over the years, but I found that one of the most restricting flaws was that the color characteristics were dependent on each other. The foremost example being value and chroma. In the 12 season system, you cannot have both high contrast and have soft chroma at the same time. I find there is no room then to have softness as a winter or be able to wear high chroma rich colors in the autumn category.

If a system doesn’t work for everybody, it isn’t good enough. So, I looked for something that made more sense.

I ended up developing my own color classification that made more sense to me. And I hope it will resonate with you too.

In the system I have organized, we will simply be defining what your characteristics are. Hue, value and chroma are not dependent on each other. They are independent vectors. You can be high contrast, cool and soft at the same time. Similarly, you can have straight body lines and soft features. Your are unique and are not made to be put in a box. Certainly, there are averages. But there is only one you with your distinct features. Why not tailor things to who you actually are?

I want to make it clear that no color or style system is wrong. There are many stylists that can find your best colors and lines in the system that they are working with. My process just made the most sense to me after studying how color and shape works. And it has become the easiest way for me to teach others.
